Administering Pre/post Attitudinal Surveys

We will send you attitudinal surveys and the accompanying Scantron^TM forms to administer before and after the course. At the end of the course, return the completed pre and post Scantron forms to us. We will calculate the means and standard deviations for each question, as well as provide a simple pre/post comparison.

Providing Chemistry Concept Questions

We have begun gathering and designing conceptual questions for general chemistry courses (some of the questions are new and some have been borrowed from other chemistry-education groups). These can be used as in-class "chem-quizzes," as homework questions, on midterms or on finals. We will not score these questions for you, but we will provide you with typical student responses from our database.

Designing New Concept Questions

We can help you design some of your own conceptual questions, either through email or over the phone. This service includes having general discussions about concept questions, editing your questions, and brainstorming for useful ideas. We do not, however, have the resources to write questions for you from scratch.

Designing 'Alternative' Assessments

We have begun to compile a taxonomy of assessment types, which we would provide, along with ideas for fitting them to your needs. These include lab-quizzes, poster sessions, peer-evaluations, and strategies for measuring the learning gains that students carry forward into future classes. These discussions can take place long-distance, or we can come to your campus to help in your design.

Discussing General Assessment Issues

Are you interested in learning more about the importance and utility of assessment? Over the phone, over email, or during a visit to your campus, we will discuss the issues of assessment with you and your colleagues.
